Resveratrol
From Japanese knotweed root, 150 mg of 98% extract in Ember. Small trials on memory and blood vessel function.

The short answer
Resveratrol is a plant compound found in grapes and Japanese knotweed. In a 26-week study, 23 older adults taking 200 mg a day remembered more words than 23 matched people on placebo. A single-dose study in 19 adults found arteries widened more as the dose rose from 30 to 270 mg.
The form, and why it matters
Most resveratrol in supplements comes from Japanese knotweed root rather than grapes. Ember uses 150 mg of knotweed extract standardised to 98% resveratrol, which is about 147 mg of resveratrol.
Typical dose
The memory study used 200 mg a day for 26 weeks. The blood vessel study used single doses of 30, 90 and 270 mg. Ember works out at about 147 mg a day.
What the research shows
In the 26-week study, 23 healthy overweight older adults on 200 mg a day were matched with 23 on placebo. The resveratrol group retained more words over 30 minutes and showed more connectivity in the hippocampus on brain scans. In a double-blind crossover study of 19 adults, flow-mediated dilatation of an arm artery rose with dose, measured an hour after each one.
Who should be careful
Resveratrol can interact with blood thinners and some other medicines. Talk to your clinician first if you take prescription medicine, are pregnant or nursing.

A plant flavonoid, 250 mg in Ember. Pooled trials found a few points off blood pressure at 500 mg a day or more.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, 500 mg in Ember. The human research so far is mostly on its building blocks rather than on NAD+ taken by mouth.

500 mg at 99.9% purity. Blood NAD rises in human trials, and the dose-finding trial put 600 mg at the sweet spot.
